About the Fellow

Meet Nour AbuHassira

Nour’s path into data science began with a Computer Engineering degree at the Islamic University of Gaza, where she graduated with distinction, ranking first in her cohort. She went on to work in software development and business analysis, building both technical and analytical experience before deciding to deepen her expertise in AI and data science. Continuing her education meant leaving Gaza and rebuilding her academic path in the UK with her MSc scholarship in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Goldsmiths, University of London; this is something she describes as demanding real resilience, even as it gave her the chance to develop skills she hopes to put towards meaningful social impact.

Professional & academic background

Experience shaped by service

Gaza is where Nour grew up and spent most of her life, right up until the war forced her to leave. Growing up there meant living with uncertainty, restrictions on movement and repeated periods of conflict, and she has said that education became one of the main ways she could build a future and contribute to her community despite it all. Daily life in Gaza today, she says, has been devastated by the ongoing conflict: displacement, destroyed homes and infrastructure, and severe disruption to healthcare and education, with many families now focused simply on survival and safety. Since leaving, studying independently in London has meant adjusting to a new environment while staying connected to what is happening back home.

Proposed initiative

HealSpace AI

A conceptual healthcare platform exploring personalised, calming digital experiences for children and young people during medical treatment.
Growing up and working in Gaza, Nour saw how limited access to opportunities made it hard for young people to break into the technology sector, so she led technical education initiatives to help change that: workshops, mentorship and problem-solving training designed to move participants beyond learning concepts and toward real jobs in IT. That work convinced her that technical education can genuinely empower young people, building confidence and opening pathways into employment, and it shapes HealSpace AI, her proposed platform combining AI personalisation with calming multimedia to help children feel safer during medical treatment. The concept is designed to scale from simple tablet content in low-resource settings up to VR where infrastructure allows, and she now hopes to build on her earlier work by connecting engineering and computing students in Gaza and the UK through mentoring, joint projects and future hackathons.

Personalised support

AI personalisation is being explored as a way to tailor calming content to individual needs.

Accessible delivery

The proposed experience is designed around mobile and tablet access.

Resource-aware immersion

Immersive or VR experiences remain optional and would be considered only where resources allow.
