Project overview

A route back into professional life

The Foundation has worked with RefuAid since 2020 to provide interest-free loans of up to £20,000 for people rebuilding professional pathways in the United Kingdom.

Loans were to support UK accreditation or mandated professional training and, in relevant cases, day-to-day expenses while that process is under way. For refugees, these funds also assisted with day-to-day expenses, with many unable to work until visas are approved. This help ensures that key skills are not put to waste and ultimately lead to people sustainably supporting themselves.

The Foundation has also provided some support to people from underprivileged UK backgrounds. This help ensured they have the ability to reach their full potential. We maintain professional connections and moral support where appropriate.

As loans were repaid, the funds went on to support later recipients.

Who the project serves

Professional development facing practical barriers

Support was provided both to refugees in the UK and people from underprivileged UK backgrounds who would not have been able to access opportunities to study and be successful without financial aid.

Partnership in practice

What the partnership enabled

Accreditation

Loans can contribute to the cost of UK professional accreditation.

Required training

Support can cover mandated training needed for a return to professional practice.

Day-to-day stability

Relevant cases may include help with living expenses during accreditation or training.

Revolving support

Repayments return to the fund so that the same capital can support future recipients.
